What is Product Management (Tech & AI)?
Product managers (PMs) sit between customers, business and engineering. They discover user problems, decide what to build next, write clear requirements, prioritise the roadmap and measure whether launches worked. PMs don't usually write code or design screens, but they must understand technology, data and design well enough to make good trade-offs. AI product managers are a fast-growing specialty: they decide where AI genuinely helps users, how to measure model quality, and how to manage risk.
Why it's trending now
- Every company adding AI features needs people who can turn powerful but unpredictable technology into useful, safe products — AI PM roles have grown quickly as a result.
- BLS projects computer and information systems managers — the management category closest to senior tech PMs — to grow 16% from 2025 to 2035.
- AI tools let PMs prototype ideas themselves (vibe-coding prototypes, AI-generated research summaries), raising expectations for technical, hands-on PMs.
- In Bangladesh, the growth of fintech, e-commerce, edtech and SaaS startups created a local PM career path that barely existed a decade ago.
Job roles
Common job titles you'll see in listings, and what each one actually does.
Associate Product Manager (APM)
Entry-level PM who owns small features, writes specs and learns the craft under a senior PM.
Product Manager
Owns a product area: discovery, roadmap, requirements, launch and success metrics.
AI Product Manager
Leads AI-powered features: use-case selection, data needs, evaluation metrics, safety and user trust.
Technical Product Manager
Owns platform, API or developer-facing products, working closely with engineering on architecture trade-offs.
Product Owner (Scrum)
Manages the backlog and acceptance criteria for an agile team, often in services companies.
Growth Product Manager
Focuses on acquisition, activation, retention and monetisation through experiments.

Tools & platforms
PM listings rarely require coding, but SQL, analytics tools and technical fluency are frequent 'strong plus' items — especially for AI and technical PM roles.
30/60/90-day roadmap
About 1–2 hours a day. Tick goals as you complete them.
Days 1–30
Product thinking
Milestone: A product teardown of an app you use, published as a blog post.
Days 31–60
Execution skills
Milestone: A PRD + wireframes + metrics plan for a realistic feature.
Days 61–90
Ship something
Milestone: A shipped mini-product with user data — the strongest proof of PM ability.

Portfolio project ideas
Build these in order. Put each one on GitHub with a clear README and a short demo.
Product teardown
easyAnalyse a popular app (e.g. a food-delivery or MFS app): users, jobs-to-be-done, business model, key metrics and three improvement ideas.
PRD for a local problem
easyWrite a complete PRD for a feature such as 'split bills with friends' in a wallet app, including metrics and risks.
Metrics dashboard and insights memo
mediumUse a public product dataset to define a North Star metric, build a dashboard and write a one-page memo with recommendations.
No-code MVP with user testing
mediumBuild an MVP with no-code or AI-assisted tools, recruit 10–20 users and report what you learned and what you'd change.
AI feature launch plan
hardDesign an AI feature end to end: use-case selection, evaluation metrics, safety guardrails, prototype, pilot plan, launch metrics and rollback criteria.
10 interview questions
Try answering out loud first, then open the short model answer.
1What does a product manager do?
Finds the most valuable problems to solve for users and the business, aligns the team on what to build and why, and makes sure what ships actually achieves the goal.
2How do you prioritise features?
Tie options to goals, estimate impact, confidence and effort (e.g. RICE), consider risks and dependencies, and communicate trade-offs transparently.
3How would you improve [a familiar app]?
Clarify the goal, pick a user segment, identify their biggest pain points, brainstorm solutions, prioritise one, and define how you'd measure success.
4What is a North Star metric?
The single metric that best captures the value users get from the product (e.g. weekly active riders), guiding teams toward long-term growth.
5A key metric dropped 20% — what do you do?
Check data accuracy, segment the drop (platform, region, version, channel), check recent releases and external events, form hypotheses and validate them with data.
6How do you work with engineers who push back on a deadline?
Understand their concerns, revisit scope together, cut to the minimum valuable version, and agree on trade-offs transparently with stakeholders.
7What is an MVP?
The smallest version of a product that lets you test your riskiest assumption with real users and learn quickly.
8How do you decide whether to use AI for a feature?
Use AI when the task is hard to solve with rules, tolerates some error, and has data to evaluate quality. Define success metrics, failure handling and cost before building.
9How do you measure an AI feature's quality?
Combine offline evals (accuracy, helpfulness, safety on a test set) with online metrics (adoption, task success, user feedback, escalation rate) and monitor over time.
10Tell me about a time you influenced without authority.
Use the STAR format: situation, task, the actions you took to build alignment (data, user evidence, listening), and the measurable result.
Resume bullet templates
Replace the [brackets] with your real numbers. Quantified results stand out to recruiters.
Led discovery and launch of [feature], increasing [metric] by [X]% within [N] months for [N] users.
Defined and tracked a North Star metric and OKRs for a [N]-person team, improving retention from [X]% to [Y]%.
Prioritised a backlog of [N] items using RICE, shipping the top [N] that delivered [business result].
Ran [N] A/B experiments that increased conversion by [X]% and informed the [year] roadmap.
Launched an AI-powered [feature] with evaluation guardrails, reaching [X]% adoption and [Y]% task success.
Formula: action verb + what you built + tools + measurable result. Only claim numbers you can explain in an interview.

Bangladesh
Tk 20,171 – Tk 78,222
gross per month
Paylab IT Product Manager range (10th–90th percentile, gross monthly). Senior PMs at well-funded startups and MNCs earn above this range.
Demand
Growing. Fintech, e-commerce, edtech and SaaS companies hire PMs and product owners; many PMs transition from engineering, design or business analysis.
Remote (from Bangladesh)
$25,000 – $80,000
per year
Estimate. Remote PM roles hiring from South Asia are fewer than engineering roles and favour candidates with shipped products and strong English; technical/AI PMs earn toward the top.
Demand
Moderate. Fewer remote PM openings than engineering, but product owner and technical PM roles exist at offshore-friendly companies.
Global benchmark
$175,140
US median, Computer & Information Systems Managers (BLS, 2025) — closest category for senior tech PMs
BLS has no product-manager category; this management benchmark reflects senior roles. Entry-level PM pay is considerably lower — check Levels.fyi for level-by-level data. Projected growth: +16% (2025–35, much faster than average).
Demand
High for experienced and AI-focused PMs; entry-level PM roles are competitive, so shipped side projects matter.
How to read these numbers: Bangladesh ranges are Paylab's 10th–90th percentile gross monthly salaries (top product companies often pay more). Remote ranges are CareerPulse estimates informed by Arc's Bangladesh remote-developer data. Global figures are US medians from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (May 2025 data, 2025–35 projections) unless stated otherwise.
