What is UI/UX & Product Design?
UX (user experience) designers figure out what people need and how a product should work — through research, user flows, wireframes and usability testing. UI (user interface) designers make it look and feel right — layout, typography, colour, components and interaction. Product designers do both and work closely with product managers and engineers. In 2026, designers are also expected to design AI experiences (chat, agents, generated content) and to use AI tools to prototype faster.
Why it's trending now
- BLS projects web and digital interface designers to grow 6% from 2025 to 2035 with a 2025 US median of $104,000.
- AI-powered products need new interaction patterns — conversational interfaces, trust and transparency cues, human review steps — which creates demand for designers who understand AI.
- Design systems and accessibility are now standard expectations, and laws such as the European Accessibility Act (applying from June 2025) push companies to fix accessibility.
- AI tools (Figma AI features, prototyping assistants) let designers move from idea to working prototype faster, raising the value of designers who can also think in product and code.

UI Designer
Designs the visual layer: layouts, typography, colour, iconography and component states.
Product Designer
Owns the end-to-end design of features, from problem framing to high-fidelity design and launch.
UX Researcher
Plans and runs interviews, usability tests and surveys, and turns findings into design decisions.
Design Systems Designer
Builds and maintains reusable component libraries, tokens and guidelines shared with engineering.
Conversation / AI Experience Designer
Designs how users interact with AI assistants and agents, including prompts, errors and trust signals.

Portfolio project ideas
Build these in order. Put each one on GitHub with a clear README and a short demo.
App redesign with heuristic audit
easyAudit a popular local app (e.g. a transport or utility app) against usability heuristics and redesign three key screens.
Landing page for a local business
easyDesign a responsive landing page for a café, tuition centre or shop, with mobile and desktop versions.
End-to-end UX case study
mediumResearch a real problem (e.g. finding reliable tutors), interview users, prototype a solution and test it with 5 people.
Mini design system
mediumCreate tokens, typography scale and 15+ components with variants and accessibility notes, documented in Figma.
AI assistant experience for a bank or health app
hardDesign a trustworthy AI assistant flow — onboarding, conversation, uncertainty states, human handoff and error recovery — and validate it with usability tests.
10 interview questions
Try answering out loud first, then open the short model answer.
1Walk me through your design process.
Understand the problem and users (research), define goals and constraints, explore ideas, prototype, test with real users, iterate, then hand off and measure results after launch.
2UX vs UI?
UX is how the product works and feels across the whole journey; UI is the visual and interactive layer on screen. Both are needed for a good product.
3How do you handle feedback you disagree with?
Ask questions to understand the concern, bring evidence (research, data, heuristics), propose testing alternatives, and focus on user and business goals rather than personal taste.
4How do you design for accessibility?
Follow WCAG: sufficient contrast, readable type, keyboard and screen-reader support, clear focus states, large touch targets, captions and not relying on colour alone.
5How many users do you need for a usability test?
About five users per round usually reveals most major usability problems; run several small rounds rather than one big one.
6What is a design system and why use one?
A shared library of components, tokens and guidelines that keeps products consistent, speeds up design and development, and makes accessibility easier to maintain.
7How do you measure design success?
Define metrics up front — task success, time on task, conversion, retention, support tickets, satisfaction (e.g. SUS) — and compare before and after.
8How would you design for low-bandwidth users?
Lightweight pages, compressed images, offline states, skeleton loaders, clear retry options and minimal steps to complete key tasks.
9What makes a good portfolio case study?
A clear problem, your specific role, process with key decisions and trade-offs, evidence from research/testing, final design and measurable outcomes.
10How do you design AI features users can trust?
Set expectations about what the AI can do, show sources or reasoning where helpful, let users edit/undo, handle uncertainty gracefully and provide a path to a human.
Resume bullet templates
Replace the [brackets] with your real numbers. Quantified results stand out to recruiters.
Redesigned [flow] based on [N] user interviews and usability tests, increasing task completion from [X]% to [Y]%.
Built a design system of [N] components used across [N] products, reducing design-to-dev time by [X]%.
Improved accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA across [N] screens, increasing usage by screen-reader users by [X]%.
Led discovery research with [N] participants that reshaped the roadmap for [feature/product].
Designed an AI assistant experience that resolved [X]% of user queries without human support while maintaining a [Y] satisfaction score.
Formula: action verb + what you built + tools + measurable result. Only claim numbers you can explain in an interview.

Bangladesh
Tk 16,416 – Tk 60,677
gross per month
Paylab User Experience Expert range (10th–90th percentile, gross monthly). Web designers are listed lower at BDT 14,776–39,221; senior product designers at product companies and remote teams earn more.
Demand
Growing. Software firms, startups, fintech and agencies hire UI/UX designers; many juniors start via freelancing on Fiverr, Upwork or Dribbble.
Remote (from Bangladesh)
$18,000 – $60,000
per year
Estimate. Remote UI/UX work from Bangladesh is common through freelancing platforms and agencies; product designers with strong case studies win full-time remote roles at the top of this range.
Demand
Good, but portfolio-driven and competitive. Specialising (fintech, SaaS dashboards, AI UX) helps you stand out.
Global benchmark
$104,000
US median, Web & Digital Interface Designers (BLS, 2025)
Product designers at large tech companies often earn significantly more; see Levels.fyi for company data. Projected growth: +6% (2025–35, faster than average).
Demand
High for experienced product designers; entry-level hiring is tighter, so research skills and real case studies are key.
How to read these numbers: Bangladesh ranges are Paylab's 10th–90th percentile gross monthly salaries (top product companies often pay more). Remote ranges are CareerPulse estimates informed by Arc's Bangladesh remote-developer data. Global figures are US medians from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (May 2025 data, 2025–35 projections) unless stated otherwise.
