What is Green Tech & Climate Tech?

Green tech (or climate tech) covers technology that reduces emissions or helps people adapt to climate change: renewable energy and smart grids, battery and EV systems, carbon accounting software, climate and flood modelling, precision agriculture, and sustainable (energy-efficient) software itself. Tech workers contribute through data science (forecasting solar output, measuring emissions), software engineering (energy platforms, ESG reporting tools), IoT (smart meters, sensors) and sustainability analysis. For Bangladesh — one of the countries most exposed to climate risk — these skills are both a career path and a way to make real local impact.

Why it's trending now

  • LinkedIn's Global Green Skills Report 2025 found green hiring grew almost twice as fast as the supply of workers with green skills (2021–2025), and the technology sector saw the fastest growth in green hires.
  • AI is driving a surge in data-centre electricity demand — the IEA projects data-centre electricity use to more than double by 2030 — creating demand for energy-efficient computing and clean-energy integration.
  • Mandatory climate disclosure rules (such as the EU's CSRD and ISSB standards) require companies — including Bangladeshi garment exporters selling to Europe — to measure and report emissions.
  • Bangladesh has a large off-grid solar sector, ongoing renewable-energy targets and major climate-adaptation programmes, all of which need data, IoT and software skills.
